History
Joining forces in '95 as "The Road Home", Chad, Mike, Ken and Dave began performing acoustic music around the Kalamazoo area. After disbanding for three years while Chad lived in Nashville, TN, they saddled back up in 2000 as "Local Motive," writing original music and playing festivals, fairs and dance clubs.
Lately, Local Motive is also playing smaller auditoriums and opening up for artists such as Exile, Highway 101, Ronnie McDowell and Stella Parton, selling CD's and merchandise, and gradually spreading out into new areas. They recently released their sophmore cd, Rhythm of the Rails, which includes twelve original, harmony-driven songs, a Restless Heart cover song, and a jazzy, innovative, Michigan-themed ghost track.

The Music
With a variety of the contemporary and traditional, up-beat and laid-back, Local Motive appeals to ages '5 to 85'. "It's about the complexities of every-day life-the struggles, the joys." A versatile, family-oriented performance band, Local Motive is a perfect fit at a Saturday afternoon gathering, and still an energetic, crowd-pleaser on a Friday night. But it's the tight, four-part harmony that sets them apart. "It's amazing how many people tell us, 'I didn't think I liked country music, but I love you guys.'"

To Our Fans...
As much work as it is, the payoffs with this band are huge. And it begins with our core group of fans who ramble around Michigan with us to our gigs. You request our originals, you come up with your own hand motions to our songs, you sell our stuff, you give this train momentum. We thank you.
The Band

Mike Geren
When I was asked to join Local Motive I had barely touched a guitar in 12 years. To say that I was reluctant would be a gross understatement. I'm not sure who was more nervous, me or Chad. I remember quite well at the end of our first practice Chad had these encourageing words: "well at least I'm confident we wont suck this weekend." So with those words and some encouragement from Curly and Slim my confidence was reborn and musical passion refueled. 12 years just dissapeared. I love playing with these guys. The harmonies are challenging but when they come together it sounds fantastic. And I believe I'm playing better than I ever have. I can't wait for each gig, my wife Deb enjoys getting out with friends and she's learning to line dance with many new fans that have started to follow the band. Anyway thank you Local Motive, thank you fans old and new for your acceptance of the new guy and thank you Deb for your love and support.
